“Boys Who Rape Girls” is the second release from The Raveonettes’ In and Out of Control album. The heavy topic of rape is ever so gently glossed with soft vocals, a steady drum beat and a sweet guitar solo. This is not a complex song by any means, but a deep track — yes.
After “personally witnessing the effect of rape on various individuals and the cowardice of the perpetrators,” singer Sune Rose Wagner decided to pen this song.
The graphic images of women beaten and torn touches a nerve and yes, this is a good thing; you should feel uneasy about rape by the way.
This is a simple song with a solid, quick message: “Boys who rape should all be destroyed.” I agree.
In and Out of Control is now available on VICE records.
